Coordinated social behaviors, such as dancing together, encourage multifarious rhythmic and interpersonally coupled movements from which observers can extract socially and contextually relevant information. Abstract In many viral infections, a large number of different genetic variants can coexist within a host, leading to more virulent infections that are better able to evolve antiviral resistance and adapt to new hosts. But how is this diversity maintained? Why do faster-growing variants not outcompete slower-growing variants, and erode this diversity? Rotational effects on the oscillation frequencies of newly born proto-neutron stars

In this paper we study the effects of rotation on the frequencies of the quasi-normal modes of a proto-neutron star (PNS) born in a gravitational collapse during the first minute of life. Our analysis starts a few tenths of seconds after the PNS formation, when the stellar evolution can be described by a sequence of equilibrium configurations. We use the evolutionary models developed by Pons et al. (1999; 2001) that describe how a non rotating star cools down and contracts while neutrino diffusion and thermalization processes dominate the stellar dynamics. Optimal Resource Allocation in Multi-Hop Networks: Contention vs. Scheduling

CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance) is actually the most used method in ad-hoc networks for transmitting on a contending medium, even if it shows poor performance in presence of hidden nodes. To increase performance, we propose an algorithm that combines CSMA and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) approaches. The adopted solution consists of grouping contending nodes in non-interfering subsets and granting a different numbers of time slots to different groups, while using the CSMA to manage medium access among nodes belonging to the same subset. Development of vocal performance in 5th grade children - A longitudinal study of choral class singing

The primary aim of the study was to assess the effects of choral class singing on vocal performance in primary school children. In particular, changes of the singing voice in terms of voice range profiles (VRP) and dysphonia severity index (DSI) were measured over the period of one school year. A further aim was to compare the effects of choral singing and regular music curriculum. A total of 50 5th-graders were assigned to two groups. An Improved Method for Estimating the Time ACF of a Sum of Complex Plane Waves

Time averaging is a well-known technique for evaluating the temporal autocorrelation function (ACF) from a sample function of a stochastic process. For stochastic processes that can be modelled as a sum of plane waves, it is shown that the ACF obtained by time averaging can be expressed as a sum of auto-terms (ATs) and cross-terms (CTs). The ATs result from the autocorrelation of the individual plane waves, while the CTs are due to the cross-correlation between different plane wave components. LOCAL CONTROL OF SOUND IN STOCHASTIC DOMAINS BASED ON FINITE ELEMENT MODELS

A numerical method for optimizing the local control of sound in a stochastic domain is developed. A three-dimensional enclosed acoustic space, for example, a cabin with acoustic actuators in given locations is modeled using the finite element method in the frequency domain. The optimal local noise control signals minimizing the least square of the pressure field in the silent region are given by the solution of a quadratic optimization problem.
